Indian Systems of Medicine for Covid-19 Treatment

India has been struggling, much like the rest of the world, to contain the spread of the Covid-19 disease through approaches and methods derived from the Modern Western System of Medicine. Our success in these efforts has however been rather limited so far due to , among other things, the limited availability of the institutions, facilities and expertise needed for the practice of Western Medicine, especially in our vast rural areas. Though we do possess a rich heritage of indigenous systems of medicine and healthcare of our own (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and other 'Folk Practices') that are spread through out our country, this vast resource of knowledge and practice has not been incorporated to any meaningful extent into our national efforts at fighting the Covid- 19 pandemic.

The PPST Group has initiated an Appeal to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India to enable greater utilisation of the Indian Medical Systems in the fight against Covid – click here for the Appeal in English. (The Appeal to PM in Hindi is available here, that in Tamil is available here, and here is the Kannada version.) This Appeal has the support of a large number of practitioners of Indian Medical Systems, some Senior Scientists from various fields, some senior practitioners of Modern Western Medicine, and some public personalities concerned with this issue.
